Theme: Living in God’s Abundance: Know Your Identity in Christ

Main Scriptures: John 10:10, 1 Peter 2:9 and Ephesians 2:4–6

God desires His children to live in the abundance of His grace, love, purpose, and blessings. However, to live in God’s abundance, we must first understand who we are in Christ. Know the God we are serving no matter the circumstances.

Jeremiah 9:23-24 reminds us not to boast in our own wisdom, strength, or riches, but to boast that you understand and know the Lord. Proverbs 3:5-6 likewise calls us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and acknowledge him in all our ways.

How Do We Know Our Identity in Christ?

1. You Are Created in the Image of God

Genesis 1:26, 28

From the beginning, God created humans in His own image and likeness. This means that our lives have value, purpose, and meaning because we were created by God and for his purpose.

Knowing that we are created in God's image should influence the way we live. We are called to reflect God's character, love, goodness, and holiness in our daily lives.

We should not allow circumstances or the opinions of others to determine our worth. Our identity begins with God, who created us in His image.

2. You Are Born Again

John 3:3; 2 Corinthians 5:17

Jesus taught that a person must be born again in order to see the Kingdom of God.

Being born again means becoming a new creation through Christ. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 teaches, anyone who is in Christ is a new creation; the old gone and the new has come.

Our past does not have to define our future. In Christ, we receive a new identity and a new beginning.

3. You Are a Child of God

John 1:12

When we receive Christ and believe in His name, we are given the privilege of becoming children of God.

Knowing that we are God's children should give us confidence to approach Him, trust Him, and live according to His will.

4. Know the Benefits of Salvation and Redemption

Revelation 5:9–10, Matthew 27:50–52, John 19:30

Another important part of knowing our identity in Christ is understanding what Jesus accomplished for us through His death and resurrection.

In Matthew 27:50–52, we see the supernatural events surrounding Jesus' death, demonstrating the significance and power of His sacrifice.

In John 19:30, Jesus declared, “It is finished.” These words pointed to the completion of the work He came to accomplish. The work of salvation had been completed through His sacrifice.

Therefore, as believers, we should understand the value of the salvation and redemption we have received through Christ. We are encouraged to live from the position of what Christ has already accomplished
