Theme: Empowered Christ's Ambassadors in God's Character – Fundamental Characters of a Christian
Main Scripture: Galatians 5:22–25
Building Christ-like character begins with being born again. Every believer is called to reflect the character of Christ through a life of obedience and worship.
1. Obedience
Obedience is submitting to God and doing what He requires. It is the willingness to cooperate with God's plan and surrender to His will. Christians are encouraged to walk in obedience because it reflects God's character.
Supporting Scriptures:
- Deuteronomy 13:4
- 1 Samuel 15:22
- Hebrews 13:17
- Acts 5:10
Disobedience brings spiritual death and separates people from God's will.
To obey God, one must learn, understand, and know Him. In 1 Samuel 3:4, Samuel responded when God called him. Genesis 12:1–5 shows Abraham's obedience when God instructed him to leave his country and his father's house for a land that He would show him. Although it was a difficult call, Abraham obeyed.
Obedience requires sacrifice, faith, and diligence. In Genesis 22:1–2, 16–18, Abraham demonstrated complete obedience by being willing to offer Isaac, whom he loved. Isaac also displayed obedience by submitting to God's will.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, willingly accepted God's plan when she said, "Let it be to me according to your word" (Luke 1:38). Joseph also obeyed God's instruction and took Mary as his wife after the angel revealed that she had conceived by the Holy Spirit.
Simon Peter obeyed Jesus' instruction to cast his nets once more, despite having caught nothing all night. His obedience resulted in a miraculous catch of fish (Luke 5:5–11).
Obedience also solves problems where there seems to be no logical solution. At the wedding in Cana, when the wine ran out, Mary instructed the servants to do whatever Jesus told them, and His miracle brought a solution to the situation.
Benefits of obeying God:
- Supernatural increase and blessing (Genesis 22:16–17)
- Victory over battles and challenges
- Revival through the power of the Holy Spirit
- God's provision and favor
As Isaiah 1:19 says, "If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land."
2. Worship
Another fundamental character of a Christian is worship. As ambassadors of Christ, believers are called to be true worshippers. Worshipping God through praise invites His presence and demonstrates love, reverence, and dependence on Him. There is power in worship, and where God is worshipped sincerely, His glory is revealed among His people.
